I replaced the tuna with salmon in this fresh spring salad.
What is it?
Five spice powder is a spice mixture from Chinese cuisine that combines the 5 basic flavors of sweet, salty, bitter, sour and sharp. The composition can vary, but most often: cassia, clove, star anise, fennel seed and sichuan pepper. Kassia is a more robust and cheaper version of cinnamon. In many cases the sichuan pepper is omitted or replaced with black pepper.
How to use?
Used to rub meat that is baked or roasted afterwards. Combines especially well with fat meat like pork or duck. Use only a little bit, the taste can be quite intense. I use it in my Chinese Chicken broth.
